Video Pick: Arctic Monkeys – Cornerstone

Posted on 18. Oct, 2009 by refe in ARTISTS

The new Arctic Monkeys video is an entertaining exercise in tongue in cheek minimalism. Its three minutes and twenty five seconds feature nothing but Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, an old-school cassette deck and a blank white wall.

Turner, clad in headphones and red sweater, croons at the camera while casually acting out the lyrics of the song in what has to be some of best choreography of the year. More proof that you don’t need a budget to be interesting.

Directed by Richard Ayoyade taking his third turn at the helm for the Arctic Monkeys.

Interesting video but the Rolling Stones wrote the minimalist script 30 years ago with their brilliant video for “She’s So Cold” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvccfua6NbI

I’d say there’s room for one minimalist video every 30 years, wouldn’t you? ;)
