New Music Releases – September 1st 2009

This week brings us an interesting mix of new music. We have the always interesting mewithoutyou with It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All a Dream! It’s Alright. The first time I saw these guys do their thing live they performed wearing wool sweaters and down parkas. It was 105 degrees.

To those who have children I highly recommend Here Comes Science from They Might be Giants [pictured top]. The Giants have been producing great, non-annoying kids music for a few years now that even the pickiest parent’s won’t mind playing in the car with the windows open.

David Bazan - formerly recording under the moniker Pedro the Lion – releases Curse Your Branches. PTL was for years hugely influential on my musical development. I think he’s lost something in the recordings his done under his own name. His songs have always dealt personal struggles of faith, relationships and alcohol. Yet, In the Pedro days there was always an undercurrent of hope. Since Achilles Heel that hope has been replaced by bitterness and defeat. I do know, however, that many have been anxiously awaiting his newest effort.

Last but not least, I recommend that you pick up the infectious new collection from Apples in Stereo #1 Hits Explosion.
