British Music Industry Going on Trial in Liverpool

Posted on 06. May, 2009 by in NEWS

The Sound City conference is coming up later this month in the Beatles old stomping grounds, Liverpool. It looks like it is going to be a great conference with a lot of interesting topics being discussed. You can check it out here if you want more info or live in the area.

One thing on the agenda in particular caught my eye – an event they are billing as ‘The Trial.’ Check this out:

The Trial: The People VS the Music Industry

Location: The Crown Court, St. Georges Hall, Liverpool
Date: 22nd and 23rd May as part of Liverpool Sound City

You are invited to witness and participate in The Trial, an investigation into the inner workings of the modern music business.

Including formal charges, celebrity key witnesses and plenty of forensic evidence, a professional legal team will subpoena key members of the music industry and cross-examine them under oath. At the end of The Trial, a hand-picked jury of 12 young music makers will deliver their verdict – is everything hunky dory in the music business in 2009 or has it all gone to the dogs?

Who hasn’twanted to see something like this happen? Music industry insiders and exec’s going on trial for their handling of the business – if it were real it would be a dream come true for artists and fans everywhere. I don’t have all of the details, but it does look like a real legal team will be handling the cross-examination, and the defendants will actually be under oath.

My question is how they convinced the music industry folks to participate in the event at all. It seems like it could be pretty risky to get up on that stand. I’ll try to get more information as the event itself begins from a few people who will be attending. I’m sorry to miss this one!
